Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube gives his honest thoughts on Matt Benning
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has had a lot to deal with so far this season, including some interesting lineup changes.
One of those changes is the addition of Matt Benning, who came in through the Timothy Liljegren trade. A lot has been made of Benning and whether or not he would even get a fair chance with the team. Some see him as a seventh or eighth option on the roster.
Regardless of what the team decides to do with him, it would appear as though Berube is a fan. While speaking to Maple Leafs Hot Stove, Berube gave his thoughts on the defenseman, who just had his first practice with the team.

He plays a hard game and blocks a lot of shots. Going back a few years, he might've led the league in blocked shots at one point. I don't know if that is a true fact or not, but it sticks in my head for some reason. That is the kind of player he is."
If you are Benning, then this is going to be music to your ears. Confidence from a head coach is always a good thing. Whether or not it results in playing time, is a completely different story.
