Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies has been struggling as of late and his head coach Craig Berube ended up calling him out for it while speaking to the media.

Over a month ago, Matthew Knies was injured by Las Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud, and since that time, he has not been able to get back on the straight and narrow.

Head coach Craig Berube sees something off with Matthew Knies

Knies has not scored a single goal in seven games and he only has one goal in his last 13.

Not to mention, the last time the Maple Leafs forward was able to get a point, was over a week ago against the New York Islanders.

Recently, Craig Berube was asked about Knies' struggles and what exactly is going on with the winger.

Berube ultimately gave his forward a bit of a wake-up call, admitting that he has not been the same since coming back from his concussion.

"Since he's come back, he's not quite where he was at. The level he was at, we need to get him there. The effort's there, but there's little things that he can do better and clean up. And we have to get him back to that level."

Knies has played 35 games so far this season and he has managed to score 11 goals while also notching eight assists.

Overall, he had a great start to the season and since that time, he has gone through his fair share of struggles.

One has to wonder if he will be able to get it together here, moving forward.

The New Year is an opportunity to regroup, get your head right, and change habits so that you can accomplish your goals.

For Knies, this seems to be the perfect moment for him to get back to that form he was in throughout the first 15 games of the NHL season.
