When Anthony Stolarz first went down with his injury, Matt Murray was given a couple of games as a test to see if he was still NHL caliber.
Unfortunately, he failed the test and was sent down to the Toronto Marlies in favor of Dennis Hildeby.
Hildeby faltered and Murray was brought back up as he continued to ball out in the AHL. However, he was never able to start a game as Joseph Woll was dominant.
Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that Anthony Stolarz was officially coming back and would start tonight against the Seattle Kraken.
Of course, Woll was named as the backup which didn't leave much room for Matt Murray.
Moments ago, the team announced that Murray would be sent back down to the AHL, with Stolarz officially reactivated.
This could very well spend the end of Murray's NHL prospects as Stolarz and Woll are going to be locked in for the rest of the year, barring injury.
Moreover, the two-time Stanley Cup champion is injury prone and who knows if another team will want to take a waiver out on him?
It is very unfortunate to think about but you can't help but root for the guy and hope that he eventually comes out on top in all of this.
As for the Leafs, Stolarz will be looking to make it three wins in a row tonight for his team.
