Max Pacioretty is in his first few games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and during this time, he has gotten to play and become accustomed to Auston Matthews.

As it stands, Matthews is on the Injured Reserve thanks to his upper-body injury. However, it is unknown when he is going to be able to come back.

In his first absence with the team, the Leafs managed to win by a score of 4-0 against the Boston Bruins. This was a massive win and fans were very excited about it. Tonight, they play the Detroit Red Wings and at the time of writing this, the Leafs are winning.

Having said that, after winning without Matthews in the lineup, some truly ridiculous comments were made. For instance, some have been floating the question whether the Leafs play better without their captain.

Recently, Max Pacioretty came out and set the record straight.

Max Pacioretty speaks on Auston Matthews

"We're talking about the best player in the world here."

It is nice to Pacioretty come out and defend his captain in this way. Matthews is someone who seemingly gets subjected to a lot of criticism, and a lot of it just isn't fair. Hopefully, he can begin to get respect from the media and even the fans.

We also hope that Matthews gets better soon and is able to make his return. That would certainly make for some good news.
