Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner scored two goals last night in a win against the Utah Hockey Club.

It was the eight game in a row in which the Maple Leafs had to play without the services of their captain, Auston Matthews.

However, without Matthews in the lineup, the Leafs still boast an impressive record of 7-1.

Overall, this has led to some questions about Matthews' impact on the team and whether or not he is truly as valuable as some believe.

Of course, the Leafs are just extremely well constructed right now and it is why they are able to continue winning games.

After last night's game, Marner actually spoke about the situation involving Matthews.

It was here where he explained exactly why the team is able to win despite the absence of their incredible captain.

Mitch Marner speaks on Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs

"We have a lot of great players regardless of (them being) in our team or in the Marlies organization. Lot of guys down there that can defnitely be playing (on) a full NHL roster. So, we got of lot of confidence of whoever is in the lineup, and that's how you have to play."

This is a very good point and it shows that the Leafs players are locked in with each other right about now.

There are a ton of reasons to be excited about the Maple Leafs at this point.

Not to mention, Matthews is probably going to come back later this week, which is going to make the team that much better.

The fact that they were able to escape this stretch without Matthews with just one loss, really speaks volumes to this team right now.
