This Auston Matthews injury update is going to put Maple Leafs fans at ease
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been dealing with a nagging upper-body injury that fans have been wanting to go away.
Overall, the injury has yet to be disclosed. Although what we do know is that it can explain why Matthews has started the season off slow.
He has missed a total of five games so far but he likely won't miss many more as the Leafs now play three games in 13 days.
According to Chris Johnston over at TSN, there is some very good news in regard to the injury to Matthews.
Essentially, the team believes that once Matthews returns, the injury will no longer be an issue. Instead, he will be fully healed.
Auston Matthews could be back soon
"I can tell you there is some optimism here. Not only is his recovery believed to be moving in the right direction, but there is a feeling that when he does return, he will be completely over this issue, that this rest period will basically eliminate the issue entirely for Auston Matthews," Johnston said. "The schedule is also in the favor of the Leafs at this point in time. They played already five back-to-backs this year, but right now they only have three games in 13 days. And so that gives a nice window here for Matthews to ramp himself up through practice and eventually return to the lineup."
This should come as amazing news to Maple Leafs fans. Once Matthews is back, it really does feel like he could get back to scoring at a ridiculous pace.
Hopefully, this turns out to be the spark that the Maple Leafs need to take the team to the next level.
Sure, there have been some good wins this season, but there have also been some pretty bad losses.
Only time will tell whether or not this Leafs team can take it to the next level in the final three quarters of the season.
