Goaltending is one of the most important positions in all of hockey, and so far this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have had a few struggles at the position when it comes to injuries.
Anthony Stolarz is currently injured which has forced Joseph Woll to become the starter moving forward.
Meanwhile, the backups as of late have been Matt Murray and Dennis Hildeby.
Murray was called up last week and got his first win in over two seasons, against the Buffalo Sabres. However, he was sent back down to the Toronto Marlies and Hildeby came right back up.
On Boxing Day, the Maple Leafs have made more changes to their goaltending landscape, as Murray is being brought back up, while Hildeby is going back down.
The timing to bring back Matt Murray is perfect as the Leafs play two games in a row on Friday and Saturday.
Friday, they go up against the Detroit Red Wings and on Saturday, the Washington Capitals.
In order to circumvent the waivers situation, it is being reported that Murray will only be called up on days where he is projected to play.
Having said that, it can be assumed that the goaltender against Detroit will be Murray, while Woll will take on the better team in the second half of a back-to-back.
For now, Craig Berube and Brad Treliving have their system worked out. It is now just up to the goalies to execute.
