Overall, this was an illegal hit and everyone knew it as soon as it went down. Nurse was bleeding profusely following the hit and had to leave the game.
Meanwhile, Reaves was kicked out for the hit to the head, and fans were absolutely livid with him.
In fact, on Sunday, it was revealed that Reaves' actions had netted him a pretty horrific five-game suspension.
While some may find this to be harsh, it is important to remember that Reaves is, indeed, a repeat offender. Furthermore, some argued he could have gotten more.
Now, the Oilers are in Montreal to take on the Canadiens, and they will have to do so without Nurse in the lineup.
According to reporter Gene Principe, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has confirmed that Nurse will be out for about a week, give or take a few days on each side.
This is not an ideal situation for Nurse and the Oilers although it certainly could have been a whole lot worse given the nature of the hit.
Head shots in hockey are just overall not fun to witness, but the league has certainly done a decent job of weeding them out of the sport completely.
Hopefully, Reaves learns his lesson with this suspension. Now, the Leafs must find his replacement, even if they won't have to dig deep for it.
In fact, the Leafs are on a nice little run right now.
They have won five of their last six games and now boast a very solid record of 11-6-2.
