Jeremy Roenick tells chilling story about Craig Berube's hilarious act of vengeance
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was known for being an interesting guy in the National Hockey League and Jeremy Roenick got to see that first-hand.
While Berube is known for being a no-nonsense guy as a head coach, he was also someone who never tolerated disrespect. Recently, Roenix explained as such by telling a truly chilling yet kind of hilarious story.
Essentially, during a scrum one game, Berube was being held back by the ref, and Roenick decided to take his chance, and punch the Leafs head coach, right in the face.
"We had a big melee 5-on-5 against Philly and the referee had Berube in his arms, I mean literally locked up and I'm free. And there's chaos everywhere and I'm like, you know, the Devil saying hit him and the Angels saying, no, don't do it... It's going to come back to haunt you well."
As Roenick explained, Berube spent the next five years tormenting him. He would make line changes just so he could be on the ice at the same time as Roenick. However, nothing ever came.
Eventually, when Roenick was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, Berube was actually part of the AHL affiliate as a player-coach. During an intra-squad game, Berube came in the room, put his hand on Roenick's shoulder, and finally got him back with a punch.
"He (Berube) comes in and says what's up everybody, what's up? And I'm like, hey what's up chief? And he says, hey Jer, what's up, puts his hand on my shoulder. How you doing, Jer? Bang! And he hits me with a quick little shot right in the mouth. He goes I told you I'd get you."
It just goes to show that Berube is a calm, cool, and collected guy that never forgets when something bad happens to him. Ultimately, you have to appreciate his dedication to the game.
