Auston Matthews Blesses the Toronto Maple Leafs With A Double Dose Of Good News
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been going through some frustrating injury problems although it looks like he is starting to feel better.
Auston Matthews will not be playing tonight against the New York Islanders, however, despite his injury, there are a few reasons to be excited if you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews remains a mystery
Firstly, it was reported by Chris Johnston that the captain is not going to require surgery for his injury.
For now, it would appear as though Matthews is dealing with a mobility issue and that he wants to keep things private.
The Maple Leafs are respecting this wish, although there is no doubt that some fans are growing impatient.
Surgery this year has never been on the table for Auston Matthews. It seems to be more about comfort and mobility rather than a serious issue. There's no confirmation on specifics, and it's not something he wants to discuss, with the team respecting his wishes. While some have speculated about a back issue, it could be a range of things, but it appears to be related to how he moves.
Meanwhile, the second bit of good news here is that Matthews made the trip to New York to watch his Leafs take on the Islanders.
Although he won't suit up, this is certainly a good sign, and it should create at least a little bit of optimism going forward.
The Maple Leafs are playing two games back-to-back this weekend as they take on the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Perhaps we could see the captain in the lineup for one of those games. Of course, there is no guarantee at this point and this is just some wishful thinking.
Having said that, the fact that Matthews is traveling and doesn't need surgery is an all-around win for everyone involved.
