Overall, Matthews is dealing with an upper-body injury and there is no telling when he will come back.
At the time of writing this, Matthews is on the injured reserve. He is day-to-day and he has missed the last three games. However, the Leafs have won all three of those matches.
The Maple Leafs have picked up some impressive wins against teams like the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, and even the Montreal Canadiens.
At this stage, there is no need to rush Matthews back onto the ice. Although you can be sure that the fans would much prefer he be back out there.
One person who isn't sweating all of this is Treliving. He spoke to reporters and stated how the team wants Matthews at 100 percent before he comes back.
Perhaps in the past, the Leafs would have rushed Matthews back onto the ice. But with Mitch Marner and William Nylander playing so well, there really is no point in doing so.
The team now sits at a respectable record of 9-5-2. There were some hiccups in the early going but that was mostly due to the offense. Defensively, this team has been fantastic.
On Tuesday, the Leafs will play against the Ottawa Senators in what should be a truly fun matchup.
It is always great when these two Ontario teams link up for a grudge match. The Senators currently have a record of 7-7, and will look to get back above .500.
Meanwhile, the Leafs are aiming for that 10th win, and their fourth in a row.
