Former NHL Goalie Carter Hutton recently went on Leafs Morning Take where he had an interesting warning for the Toronto Maple Leafs before the playoffs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will for sure make the playoffs, however, there is a lot of debate centered around who the team would want to play in that all-important first round.

Toronto Maple Leafs need to get in a good position for the playoffs

If the playoffs were to begin today, the Toronto Maple Leafs would have to play against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who occupy the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

This would be a rematch of 2023 when the Leafs finally broke through and won a first-round playoff series.

However, as Carter Hutton explained on Leafs Morning Take, this is not an ideal first-round matchup, and it is all because of Andrei Vasilevskiy.

As Hutton explained, Vasilevskiy could get hot and it would force the Leafs into a tough series they don't necessarily have to go through.

The former NHL goaltender also noted that the Leafs need to avoid the Florida Panthers, who are clearly on another level right now.

For Hutton, the solution is very simple and it involves the Leafs winning not just the Atlantic Division, but the Eastern Conference as well.

That would allow the Leafs to play a weaker team in the first round and that team would like either be the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Ottawa Senators, or maybe even the Montreal Canadiens.

This would make for an easier path forward for the Leafs, although it is not a guarantee that they would go all the way.

Overall, this Leafs run is going to be interesting to watch, and they are not short on demons to exercise.
