The Toronto Maple Leafs knocked off the New York Islanders today by a score of 3-1, however, it was a difficult afternoon for the face of defenseman Chris Tanev.

Chris Tanev was a new signing for the Maple Leafs this past offseason and he has turned out to be a huge warrior, as well as one of the most consistent defensemen on the team.

Today, the defenseman found himself in a very painful situation as he took a puck to the face in the middle of the Leafs' win against the New York Islanders.

Whenever you have a puck hit your face like that, you know you are going to be in for a pretty bad time, and Tanev knows this all too well.

In one clip that hit social media, the Maple Leafs star could be seen with blood dripping off of his face.

Furthermore, he spit something out of his mouth, although the broadcast claimed that this was gum and not his teeth.

In the first 36 games of the NHL season, Tanev was able to amass a rating of +13 while also scoring a goal and nine assists.

He has been one of the best new pick-ups on the Leafs roster so far this season, and there is no doubt that fans love him right now.

Thankfully, Tanev was able to return to the game after the incident, as helped the team close out the match.

Overall, Tanev really has been a blessing, and we cannot wait to see how he fairs once the New Year rolls around.

After today's win against the Islanders, the Leafs get to run it back on Thursday with another match against New York.
