Toronto Maple Leafs star Matthew Knies has been improving every single season and there is no doubt that he is a very exciting player.

He has gotten some reps on the top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, and overall, it has proven to be a great trio. However, Knies has taken on some new roles with Matthews out of the lineup.

One thing about Knies that has been so good is the fact that he has a lot of size and can play a physical brand of hockey.

We saw that on Wednesday night as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Washington Capitals with an overtime comeback.

In the game, Knies had a collision with Capitals player Nic Dowd, and Dowd ended up breaking his nose. It was pretty damn brutal and many were wondering how Knies felt about it.

Recently, he came out and admitted that he apologized and is very sorry about what went down.

Matthew Knies on Nic Dowd

Matthew Knies apologized to Caps' Nic Dowd after the inadvertent hit on Wednesday:

"I really didn't mean to collide with him. It wasn't my intention to hurt him or hit him there. I simply didn't see him coming behind Doms ... I'm just glad he's OK"

Only time will tell whether Knies is going to continue being one of the most impressive players on the Leafs. He is someone that the fans are excited about and he has a bright future ahead.

Tonight could be a great opportunity for Knies as the Leafs take on the defending Stanley Cup Finalists, the Edmonton Oilers.

Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can get a big win tonight that would make it their fifth W in the last 6 games.
