Matthew Knies gets an official injury status update ahead of Utah Hockey Club matchup
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies has been on a tear so far this season, however, he recently sustained an injury due to a hit from Zach Whitecloud of the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
The hit was actually extremely controversial as Whitecloud left his feet to hit Knies in the head.
Furthermore, Whitecloud ended up missing out on a five-minute major penalty.
The penalty was called initially, however, after a review, the referees decided to just let it go.
Overall, it was pretty ridiculous and unsurprisingly, there were a lot of Leafs fans even players who were upset at what the NHL decided to do. Or in this case, not to do.
On Sunday, the Leafs play against the Utah Hockey Club and fans have been waiting to find out if Knies will play.
Matthew Knies gets the injury bug
Well, it has been confirmed that no, Knies will not play.
Instead, he has been placed on the injured reserve. Not to mention, the team has signed Alex Nylander as a replacement.
This is yet another key injury for the Leafs who are now down Auston Matthews, David Kampf, Max Domi, Max Pacioretty, and now Knies.
They are even missing Ryan Reaves right now because of a suspension. It just goes to show the Leafs are missing too many forwards to count.
Despite all of this, the Leafs have been on a tear. They have won six of their last seven games.
Lastly, they have a record of 12-6-2, so it cannot be all bad.
