Mika Zibanejad is a player who typically gives you between 25 to 30 goals per season, however, in 2024-25, the New York Rangers center has struggled and it is clear he could benefit from a change of scenery.
The Rangers have traded away former captain Jacob Trouba, and it also appears as though they want to trade Chris Kreider.
Now, Mika Zibanejad is reportedly on the menu, according to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman.
In fact, Friedman reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs could be interested in the Centerman as they want a player who has a few years left on their contract.
Zibanejad certainly fits that mold as he is in the third year of an $8.5 million AAV contract.
However, given the cap hit, the Maple Leafs would have to give up a whole lot to make this trade work.
In a report from Nick Alberga, a Zibanejad to the Leafs trade was floated around, noting that he could be the perfect center to play on any of the team's top three lines.
This season, the Center has struggled mightily with just six goals in the first 36 games.
Overall, this is well below Zibanejad's usual production as the forward has scored a total of 300 goals in 884 career games.
For Maple Leafs fans, the Mike Zibanejad situation will be something to watch out for moving forward. Hopefully, Brad Treliving feels the same way.
