This is a game in which the Maple Leafs are trying to get back in the win column. They want to fix their ailing power play, and the fans want to see some production from the team's superstars. However, early in the game, there was quite a bit of controversy.
As you can see down below, Ryan Hartman scored first for the Wild, although it was clear there was some foul play involved. The replay shows that Hartman very clearly kicked the puck into the net.
In a normal world, this kind of goal would be called back. However, after a video review, they let this goal stand. Why? Because they argued that Hartman kicked Tavares' stick, which is what put the puck in. This kind of logic is pretty egregious, as a kicking motion is what led to the goal.
The Leafs were pretty livid with the call and it is very easy to see why they would feel that way. After all, it is a horrible way to get scored on, regardless of how you look at it.
Thankfully for the Leafs, the goal has not tanked the game for them. After the second period, the score is tied at one goal a piece. This is still a very winnable game for them, despite the horrific call on the ice.
