Footage From Red Wings Vs Blue Jackets Stadium Series Game Has Fans Accusing the NHL of Rigging the Match
Yesterday's game was huge for the Columbus Blue Jackets history as it was their first time playing in the NHL's beloved Stadium series.
However, the game-winning goal scored by Justin Danforth has proven to be controversial as it came at the expense of a high-stick on Detroit Red Wings player Simon Edvinsson.
The referee missed a pretty blatant call and Danforth was able to get away with murder before scoring one of the biggest goals of his career.
This has led to a huge firestorm on Twitter and it is Red Wings fans who find themselves at the center of all of this.
Detroit Red Wings fans launch conspiracy against the NHL
If you were to go on Twitter right now, you would see a whole bunch of Red Wings fans posting footage of the goal and showing just how egregious the penalty really is.
In fact, the footage of the penalty has many fans accusing the NHL of completely rigging the game in favor of the Blue Jackets.
This s**t is so rigged like actually there is no explanation that makes any sense. That's a penalty all day long. I wish I had a ticket so I could storm the ice and fight the ref wtf is this s**t.
I've been watching hockey since I was 13. And in all my years, I have never seen the kind of goal that was scored tonight be scored.
A high-stick-to-strip-the-puck in one motion, in front of referees who deemed it a legal play.
It is understandable for fans in Detroit to be upset right now, but going into conspiracy theory territory is a bit far-fetched.
The NHL is not rigging games. Sometimes, the referees really do just suck at their jobs and it's not deeper than that.
