The two were placed on long-term injured reserve, and there was simply no telling when they would be coming back to the Maple Leafs lineup. For Hakanpaa, it looked especially bleak as many made the claim that he would have to retire.
However, Hakanpaa has been dedicated to getting back on the ice. The same can be said of Dewar, who is an impact player whenever he cracks the lineup. Fans have been praying for their returns, and this morning, some good news came down the pipeline.
As you can see in the tweet down below, the Toronto Maple Leafs officially announced that Hakanpaa and Dewar were taken off LTIR. Subsequently, they have been sent down to the Marlies for a conditioning stint. It is here where they will play a couple of games and get themselves back in shape.
Ultimately, this could not come at a better time. The Leafs had a topsy-turvy start but are now on a two-game winning streak. They were able to pull off wins against the Winnipeg Jets and the Seattle Kraken.
Getting Hakanpaa back is something that the team has wanted for a very long time. While it may not make the Leafs a powerhouse right away, he adds the kind of depth that will aid in getting a Stanley Cup, or at least some kind of playoff success, something the team has not had for decades.
