When the Maple Leafs decided to sign Jani Hakanpaa during the summer, there were rumblings that he might not even play again due to a pretty substantial knee injury.
However, Hakanpaa eventually returned to the ice and was sent to the Toronto Marlies for a brief, two-game conditioning stint.
He subsequently made his way to the Toronto Maple Leafs roster, although he only played a total of two games with the team.
Since then, he has been completely out of the lineup, and earlier this week, it was revealed that he had been officially placed on the injured reserve.
Today, the team gave yet another peculiar update on Hakanpaa, although this one might provide just a tad bit of closure to those who have been confused.
According to NHL.com's Dave McCarthy, Hakanpaa received a procedure on his knee, but will be back on the ice sooner rather than later.
While this may be seen as a positive to some folks out there, others will look at it as a massive red flag.
Some fans out there thought that the Jani Hakanpaa problems would be fixed by now. However, that is not the case.
Instead, Maple Leafs fans are just going to have to be patient here. Everyone knew it would be a difficult road for him when the season began.
Hopefully, Hakanpaa can return and have a prosperous second half to the season.
