Maple Leafs Reporter Makes Shocking Claim About Sheldon Keefe & the New Jersey Devils
Toronto Maple Leafs reporter Jesse Blake was on the Steve Dangle Podcast where he made some truly eye-opening remarks about former head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Sheldon Keefe was a solid head coach for the Maple Leafs but he could never quite get it done in the playoffs, which was disappointing for a lot of fans.
This past offseason, the head coach was fired and replaced by Craig Berube. He then subsequently signed with the New Jersey Devils.
Sheldon Keefe still loves the Toronto Maple Leafs?
During the latest episode of the Steve Dangle Podcast, some interesting comments were made about Keefe by co-host Jesse Blake.
The reporter noted that Keefe has not moved his family to New Jersey, and instead, they have remained in Toronto.
In fact, Blake believes the former Leafs bench boss is still in love with the city and that his close ties are forcing him to be non-commital to the New Jersey experience.
"I don't know if a lot of people know this, Sheldon Keefe, he didn't move any part of his life when he took the job in New Jersey.
His two kids are here, his wife is here. When he's back in Toronto, everything is normal, you know, 'this is actually my home'. I think if you got truth serum in Sheldon Keefe and you asked him tomorrow if we gave you the job of head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs back, I think he would take it.
It feels like, he's coming back one day, doesn't it? Every single second I think this guy is disappointed that he couldn't win a championship for this team and you look back on the tenure and you look at how things ended, I don't think there should be really that much blame on Sheldon Keefe as a coach in terms of on the ice performance.
At the end of the day it came down to the players. He loves the city, it's where his home is."
The insinuation here is that Keefe could abandon the Devils to take a job as an assistant coach or maybe even a front-office position with the Leafs.
Of course, this is simply conjecture and the coach could just be waiting for the right time to move his family to the United States.
That said, there is no denying that he has had ties to Toronto for his entire life and his transition to the New Jersey Devils must be a difficult one.
Hopefully, Keefe will find peace in his new role and will not let his 0-1-2 record against the Leafs discourage him from a potential playoff run.
