Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan is certainly known for having a good sense of humor about things, and William Nylander was certainly subjected to that this past week.

Recently, Shanahan met a viral fan named Grayson who dressed as an Auston Matthews Upper Deck hockey card. Grayson became a guest of the Leafs, and Shanahan made time for the seven-year-old.

During their talk, Shanahan made reference to the fact that Grayson is eligible for the NHL in 11 years. While this talk was happening, William Nylander walked by. This led to a pretty hilarious comment from Shanahan, which was a reference to Nylander's massive eight-year contract worth an AAV of $11.5 million.

"This guy knows the No. 11. He knows it really well - $11.5 (million)."

The kid probably didn't understand the reference too well, but we're sure Nylander did. Whether or not he was a bit upset about the comment, is another story entirely. Sometimes, players can be quite sensitive about how much they make.

Either way, last night was not a great night for the Leafs. They ended up losing to the St. Louis Blues by a score of 4-2. This was head coach Craig Berube's return to St. Louis, and it did not go as planned. Now, the Leafs have a record of 6-5-1 on the season.
