Vatrano is someone who has bounced around the NHL quite a bit over the past few years.
He played for the Florida Panthers but also spent some time with the New York Rangers. He subsequently made his way to the Ducks where he has definitely been a solid player, all things considered.
For instance, last season, he had a whopping 37 goals and 60 points. Unfortunately, this season has not been as kind to Vatrano, who is currently only sitting at one goal in 12 games.
As David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period explained, Vatrano could be on the move. The Ducks know he is valuable, and they would prefer not to lose him for nothing.
How dod the Maple Leafs fit into this? Well, they are a team in need right now. There is no such thing as too much depth in the National Hockey League.
Furthermore, the Leafs are going to be without Max Pacioretty for quite some time. It is a bit of a disastrous situation for the team, and an extra forward would definitely help them out.
That said, Vatrano makes $3.65M which means the Leafs would need some kind of cap help if they were to do a swap. This means a third team might be an absolute must.
Whatever the case may be, Frank Vatrano is going to find a new home in the future. The Ducks are looking to be sellers, and with the Leafs looking like real contenders, Brad Treliving will want to be a buy.
The team has yet to really make a huge splash via trade in the Treliving era. That has got to change if this team wants to win something.
Only time will tell what happens with Vatrano, and whether or not the Leafs end up showing a lick of interest.
